The National Indian Education Association (NIEA) is dedicated to empowering Native communities by nurturing the strengths, resilience, and intelligence of Native youth. We collaborate with Native leaders, educators, and federal, state, and tribal partners to advance self-determination and enhance learning opportunities for American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian students. Over the past 50 years, NIEA’s advocacy has contributed to numerous legislative successes in education policy, improving the schools and systems that serve Native students, their families, and communities.

During NIEA Hill Week, we will come together to advocate for the educational priorities of Native students and communities, focusing on the importance of educational sovereignty at the federal level. The event will kick off with meetings between NIEA members and Congressional representatives to discuss the current state of Indian education and our legislative priorities. This will be followed by discussions with federal, tribal, and organizational partners to address key educational issues facing Indian Country. The week will culminate with a day of congressional advocacy on Capitol Hill, where attendees will engage directly with policymakers to push for meaningful changes that support Native education. Together, we are advocating for a brighter, more equitable future for Native students across the nation.

Registration will be open on December 2, 2024.
